about

Pat Hall began performing his music in the earlJy '90s at the original Knitting Factory ard other NYC vennues with various cohorts including Jorge Sylvester on alto sax, bassist Jeff Camey, Jack DeSalvo on guitar and drummer Bruce Ditmas. A live performance on WKCR FM featured Melvin Gibbs and Tom Tedesco. Rehearsals took place at Jack DeSalvo's space in the third sub-basement of a Soho building that once served as morgue for Confederate prisoners during the Civil War.
A particularly memorable performance of the Pat Hall Quintet occured on the night in 1991 when George Bush (the First) invaded Iraq. Pat announced the invasion and his disgust after which the band launched into a particularly wild rendition of Pat's tune Swamp Thing.

Pat's decision to record as a trio here with the virtuosic PeterHerbert and the legerdary Bruce Ditmas is fortuitous. The use of space and almost telephathic listening illuminates Pat's compositions in subtle yet powerful passages. Pat's sound as a player is served well by his compositions and his iisteners are well served, too.
